So far, my recent foray back into writing has been developing slowly, but steadily. To be an accomplished writer has been my greatest hope and ambition since early childhood.
I suppose writing is a talent that runs in my family. My
father David Lehman is a prominent poet and literary critic. His sister has
written freelance articles for numerous publications as well, and her son, my
estranged cousin, I am learning is a budding creative writer.
In the past near-seven years since I initiated this blog, I have
struggled with mental illness as well as environmental limitations of many
sorts. The latest limitation has been my troubled sleep. For at least
two-and-a-half years now, I have experiencing nightly symptoms of what I now
understand to be sleep apnea. In the past few months I have taken steps to
rectify this disorder in my slumber.
I am currently required to sleep hooked up to a CPAP machine.
Since I posted an apparently iconic-looking photograph featuring myself trying
out the mask I wear attached to the machine, I have found the image has gotten
a lot of hits on Facebook.
How this issue affects my ability to write is uncertain. One
thing that is truly certain though is the large gap in my productivity as a
writer since this blog’s inception. Battling mental illness has been a long,
arduous effort.
I have resolved to do my best to get back up on the
‘proverbial horse’ as they say. I intend to contribute at least one blog post
per day, every day. I do hope very much that this site will eventually gain
attention.
